Meeting the CO

Mission: Episode 3 - Winds of Change
Location: New Bajor

It hadn't been too long since her meeting with the Admiral that it was time to move on to her next stop, she had since heard that her new CO was in the facility and it was probably wise to go meet him now. After asking where his office was a security officer would point her in the right direction after which Elena made her way there. Having only just placed the new pip on her uniform it was quite something to get used to. Once there she rung the proverbial bell.

Jacob looked up to the sound of the door chirp. 'Come' he said allowed, knowing the computers sensors would recognise the command to open the door. He stayed seated at his desk in the office, kindly donated to him by Rear Admiral Adislo, while he waited for another assignment. In the doorway stood a marine. "Who are you?" he asked in a not too rude, but blunt way.

"Lieutenant Colonel Elena Kristina Wright sir. I have been assigned to work with you" She said extending a hand.

"Hmm. Do you have any idea what we are doing? I am still awaiting an assignment. Presumably the Cassiopeia's XO." His voice softened a little, though not by much.

Remembering specific instructions not so say anything for now Elena would shake her head. "Sorry, Commander. I know about as much as you do"

"In that case, it isn't very much. I guess we will have to get you a desk and an office, but you can hang around here for the time being. Not like I have much to do anyway." His tone was somber.

Elena nodded "Is something wrong, sir?"

"I don't know Colonel. I lost a starship, lost a friend and im pretty sure they are holding me responsible for what happened to the Galavant too. So yeah, somethings wrong." His expression changed almost the instant he had finished talking. "Sorry, Colonel. I'm just not in a great place right now."

"If you would prefer to be alone now I'd be happy to return later?" Elena said, in reality she was hoping for a denial as it didn't seem like the best time to leave Jacob alone but she had to get her new CO some space even if it was difficult to not tell the man what his new job was going to be.

"No, you have been assigned to work with me, there must be a reason. He stood up from his desk, picking up his PADD, and went and sat on the couch set out against the wall which provided a scenic view of the courtyard. Just outside the main entrance was the courtyard, which was surrounded on 2 sides by gardens and a huge lake which was about 20km wide. Made an amazing place for people to lose the stress of all the decision making at DS11.

Elena nodded before appreciating the view "This is a beautiful place"

"It is. One of the reasons I originally game to the Gamma Quadrant. DS11 was just the planetary compound back then. But it still wasn't as nice as it looked now. Particularly now, it certainly helps me relax."

Elena nodded "Despite having worked intensively on the Cardassian border I've never actually managed to make it here before. I did always want to see the Gamma Quadrant"

"Well its not a bad quadrant. Has its ups and downs. Right now, obviously, its having downs. The loss of 2 ships and crippling of another doesn't exactly bode well." He hoped he wasn't putting the Colonel off her new job.

"Then we should make sure to improve on the situation" Elena responded with a slight smile.

"I like you. Every cloud etcetera. I need more people like that in my life. Especially lately." He replied, returning the smile.

"I am sure we can accommodate that too, I can't even imagine what you must be going through after the loss of a ship. Now I am sure we will hear more about our assignments from the Admiral very soon" Elena responded.

"I hope so. Because frankly, I am sick of desk duty." He smiled. He was beginning to open up to this woman. "So what was your last posting?"

"I can imagine you would, never been one for desk duty myself" Elena responded with a smile. "Task Force 93, Executive Officer on the USS Hawk. Before that I was mostly on Liberty Station along the Cardassian border"

"So, pretty new to the Gamma quadrant then. Give it time. You will love it here."

Elena smiled "I'm sure I will Commander"

After finishing the initial talk Elena would leave the office again making her way to her own office and prepare for the ceremony the next day.
