406 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Episode 2 - Whispers in the Clouds
Location: USS Unification
Timeline: Day 2 - 1610

"Lets get this done people, good luck Aztala." Jacob called out to the Orion Commander walking off the bridge, with several officers following closely behind. Several relief officers took over the now empty consoles and stations.

Lieutenant JG Darzen Kail took over the engineering station, but it wasn't for long. He stood and went with the away party.

Benson got to engineering quickly, the minute he slid around the door went to the main computer panel and ran checks on each system, in turn. When he was satisfied that everything was in order, he contacted the Bridge. "Everything's a go here Commander."

"Thank you Lieutenant. Maintain contact with the bridge." Jacob turned to the remaining officers still on the bridge. "Ready weapons, yellow alert."

"Aye aye Captain." Benson pushed a series of buttons, leaving the the com-link open for the time being. He stayed in engineering, hovering over one of the main panels and watching sensors at the same time.

"Lieutenant Roebuck, status of the security department. Are they ready to repel invaders?"

"Yes sir." Roebuck replied confidently. He then glanced back at his Commanding Officer, "With your permission I'd like to assign patrols to each deck, now, as well as to all vital locations."

"Please do so Lieutenant. Use the Marines if you have to. lets make sure that whatever happened to them, doesn't happen to us." Jacob couldn't help but worry. Something managed to completely cripple a Nebula class ship. He wasn't about to let something like that cripple this tiny, by comparison, Diligent class ship.

Roebuck tapped in a few commands on his console, sending a message to his available Security staff to begin their assigned patrols. He then sent a follow up message to the Marines, assigning them patrols routes through the ship's corridors too.

Something occurred to Joycelyn at that moment, "Sir, I recommend we isolate all systems from the main core. Not all weapons are what we would consider...'conventional'."

Benson was at his post in Engineering scanning the area for any ships. The Klingons were pretty easy to spot, even if they were cloaked. The Romulans on the other hand were not so easy to spot. It took very careful scanning to find a Romulan ship. They really shouldn't be fighting with anyone out here, but something or someones had disabled a starfleet vessel. Their job, his job, was to find out the wheres and whys of it all.
