Episode 1A - Welcome Aboard
Location: USS Sutherland, USS Unification
Timeline: Day 2 - 0600
"Bridge to Commander Lambert."
This better be important, he thought to himself, then realised that it more than likely was, as he was about to be greeted with New Bajor, and his new ship. He glanced at the clock to make sure that this was the call he was expecting. 0400, the approximate time they were arriving at New Bajor. He quickly sat up from the couch and fastened his uniform top. "I'm on my way."
As he entered the bridge, he looked at the view screen and saw as the only Starfleet colony in the quadrant came to life. He had seen pictures of it, but it looked quite different, what with the extra ships and numerous shuttles and work bees in orbit dealing with the 4 or 5 starships that were there.
"Quite a sight. Lieutenant, " he called to the conn officer "Locate the USS Unification and put her on the screen." The screen flickered as the Diligent class Unification came into view. A little ship, well most ships were little compared to Nebula class ships, he was suddenly overcome and couldn't wait to see what it was like. There was evidently some damage, but he would find out what happened sooner or later.
A panel beeped from his left. "Sir, Commander Akoval is hailing."
"Thank you, put it through Ensign."
His new ship flashed and was replaced with Akoval. "Welcome to New Bajor Commander, I trust you are packed up? Please have your belonging beamed to the Unification, and have yourself beamed there within 30 minutes. We have work to do, Akoval out."
Chief Ellis smiled. "He certainly isn't one for long conversations is he?" He laughed as a few of the junior officers joined in. "Guess this is farewell then Jacob." He turned to salute his commanding officer, while each officer on the bridge stood to attention for their departing commander. He stood to attention himself and saluted his officers and crew.
"You are a fine crew, and it has been my honour and privilege to serve with you all. Now at ease, I have 20 minutes to say my good byes, and I plan to enjoy them. Anyone not on duty is free to join me for a farewell drink." He left the bridge and for the first time, he felt, he stopped and looked around and took everything in. He couldn't remember the last time he had done this. I guess its true, you don't know what you have until its gone he thought to himself.
As the transported beam deposited him on the Unification, he noticed that a smell singed the air, metallic, something not normal. He was greeted by the face of Akoval who was standing there, almost looking impatient. "Come with me to the bridge Commander. I don't know how much you know, but a lot of it has been classified. Needless to say, you are now in command of this vessel." The turbolift to the bridge was a short journey and when he arrived there were panels blown out in places. A fixer-upper one of his great great grandfathers would have said.
Akoval stopped in front of the Commanding officers chair and pressed a button. "Attention to Orders. To Commander Akoval, Temporary Commanding Officer, USS Unification. You are hereby requested and required to relinquish command of your vessel to Commander Jacob Lambert, Commanding Officer, USS Sutherland as of this date. Signed, Rear Admiral Brianna Avery."
Jacob turned to the Andorian. "Computer, transfer all command codes to Commander Jacob Lambert. Voice authorization: Lambert Alpha Nine Seven Four Epsilon."
The computer made a few noises and before it replied. "Transfer complete. USS Unification now under command of Commander Jacob Lambert."
Akoval spoke up. "Excellent Commander, I will take my leave of you and let you get acquainted with your new ship." He tapped the comm panel on the chair. "Commander Akoval to New Bajor, one to beam down." A hum and blue light engulfed the commander, and he was gone.
"Well, this is a mess. Captain to all department heads, report to the conference room in 20 minutes."
