Mission: Episode 2 - Whispers in the Clouds
Location: Mess hall
Timeline: Day 1 - 1730

Mentally exhausted George slowly made his way to his quarters. The shift on the bridge was more training anything else. Setting up profiles for maneuvers and getting used to the layout. Every helm console was just different enough that you'd set up your own.

He was getting to know the other crew members while he also learned the ship. In a small ship like this, usually you cross trained to be able to take over any station near you in an emergency. So he trained on the tactical station as well as operations next to him. As he walked through the door, he rubbed his next to stop the oncoming stress headache. Pulling off his uniform he set the sonic shower to a low throb and step in, feeling the tension melt away from him. He pulled on some simple jeans and a T-shirt.

He could've just used the replicator, but the felt more like having company. He made his way to the mess hall. Several items loaded down the tray he had, threatening to fall off. Taking a seat he started his meal.

"What is that damned STENCH!?" Talva asked rudely, slamming his fork to the table. The Mess Hall was far too busy for his tastes but was the lesser of two evils where his claustrophobic quarters were the alternative; even then occasionally one of the humans would replicate something disgusting to assault his senses. Talva had been around humans for long enough to experience a decent variety of their regional cuisine but this particular dish was new to him.

Working on his chili and cornbread first, George offered. "I think it's the Kimchee your smelling. My mountain survival course took place in Korean on Earth. Developed a taste for the stuff. It's a pickled vegetable. Although I find that odd considering the Bajoran love of hasperat. George Ward, Chief Flight officer. Just got here." he said, offering his hand.

"It's... offensive." Talva snorted, ignoring the hand, instead picking the fork back up and resuming his meal. "I don't know how you can eat the stuff."

A silence fell over the table; Talva quickly became aware of the expectant gaze of the newcomer and realized that he was waiting for Talva to reciprocate his introduction. Finishing his mouthful Talva cleared his throat before obliging. "Talva Ren, Chief Engineer. So... whom (else) did you annoy to get assigned to this scow?" Talva asked before taking another bite.

"I'm an Ensign fresh out of the Academy. As Chief Flight Officer. I could do worse than being posted to a new ship. Would you rather be at the bottom of the section on a Excelsior?" George asked.

"Starfleet had me serving on Defiant-Class vessels for almost 5 years. Just as I thought I was finally at the very least worthy of assignment to an Excelsior-class vessel they commission these things; every bit as claustrophobic with a little extra candy coating." Talva spat, "Believe me, serving aboard smaller vessels isn't all that great after a while."

Calden entered the mess hall. Sickbay was filled with the usual patients. Small cuts and burns on one enlisted crew member and another with a hand burn that required intensive treatment. He wanted to assess some of the officers to see if he had to remind some of them to see him for the annually checkup. At the food slot a plate of meatloaf loaded with mashed potatoes and gravy enticed him. It was a meal from Earth he had fallen in love with, his friends had introduced it to him. Finding an open spot near a few others, he sat down and started eating his meal.

Finally starting to get full, Ensign Ward finished the small plate of slider hamburgers. Introducing himself, he said, 'that reminds me, I need to finish my in-processing. I'll get up to sickbay shortly.
