Timeline: Day 1 - 1050
Laura had been waiting to meet her new superior for a little while now. He had come on board and been busy fixing up the science labs, but now they finally had time together in the main Science Lab. Mainly because he had ordered her to come and have this little meeting.
"Lieutenant Junior Grade Laura Wildner, reporting as ordered Lieutenant Tolx."
The joined Trill had only entered the main science lab from a quick visit to his office a few short minutes ago. The human female had startled him until he recalled requesting her presence. "Ah, yes Lieutenant." He said hiding away the confusion from his face back to his typical cheery demeanor. "Is there anything of interest as far as present research that is being conducted among the other science officers?"
"No Lieutenant. How are you finding your stay on board the Unification so far?" She replied. She was hoping to start a conversation with this new officer.
Tolx shrugged slowly before looking over the PADD that he'd picked up, "It isn't too terribly bad I suppose. Just trying to get used to a nebula class starship. I have never been assigned to one before now." He lowered the PADD and looked right into her eyes, "I haven't really met the Captain or Executive Officer either. Though, I heard the former is sort of insane."
"I wouldn't call him insane. Hes been through a lot lately though. His ship before this one, one of his closest friends died when the ship was self destructed. The Captain was ready to do it himself, then his friend saved his life. It took him a while to get over it." she replied, with a somber look on her face. "I was only assigned here to to this ship, so I don't know much more about what happened to his last ship."
He nodded quickly, "I read the reports that had been submitted to Starfleet. I've heard that losing a ship for a Captain can be a lot like losing a limb. But, I was unaware that a friend of his didn't make it through the ordeal certainly that is a tough thing to go through."
"It is. As I said it took him a while to get over it, and he is certainly doing better. Though I suspect he will never truly be over it. He appears to be holding it together though, otherwise he probably wouldn't have been authorised to leave orbit." She replied.
Jidar looked at her after he put the PADD back down, "It'll just be up to the Executive Officer and the other Department Heads to watch over him. If he were to become emotionally detached or unable to cope with the loss then the proper actions would be taken on a temporary basis. Perhaps I will go check on him later I do need to speak with him eventually anyway."
"I think they are all looking out for him as it is. I think you were the last department head to come on board anyway. He seems to be able to handle it, and from what I have heard he hasn't had any complaints from anyone."
The Trill nodded, "That's good to know. What are the standing orders for the science department?" He asked trying to change the subject back to something a little closer to work related.
"As of this morning, we currently have no experiments ongoing. There is a small team working on the sensor data from the probe we are heading for. There are a few inconsistencies, but we are putting them down to the current distance from the ship." She replied.
He looked at her for a second, "Probe?"
"Yes, Lieutenant. We sent a probe ahead to try and get clearer readings on the sensor buoy that we are heading for. We are getting some readings that don't seem to fit what we should be expecting given the errors that we were told about the buoy."
"I wouldn't think that distance would affect data provided by a sensor buoy or a long range probe, but I could be mistaken. Do you know how many hours until we arrive?"
"Within the next 12 hours or so. We did just make a course correction, but its to nowhere in particular." Laura replied.
He nodded, "Very well keep me informed."
"Aye Sir." She spoke as she turned to head back to her own lab.
