Location: New Bajor
Timeline: Day 1 - 0930

IC:

It had been a long trip to the Gamma Quadrant, only a month ago she was still on the USS Hawk but Starfleet had deemed her skills to be of sufficient value to justify a redeployment and even a promotion. She didn't know too much about her new assignment yet besides it being related to the Gamma Quadrant operations of Task Force 9, she was kind of expecting to be assigned as a liaison somewhere honestly. It wouldn't have been one of the most glamorous jobs but orders were orders. Only when she arrived on New Bajor she got the idea it might be something different. Making her way to the outpost on the planet she was quickly given the directions to the office of the TFCO. Once there she would indicate her arrival with the officer manning the waiting area and take a seat awaiting permission to enter.

Rear Admiral Adislo was sitting in his officer, talking with his Yeoman, Lieutenant Command Tevak, a Vulcan, who by Vulcan standards was positively quirky. And had a fantastic sense of humor, according to Adislo.

"So many applications for transfer from members of the Cassiopeia." The Admiral told the Vulcan.

"It is hardly surprising considering what most of them went through. Gassed in their own quarters. It would be quite an ordeal, even for a Vulcan."

"Indeed. Is the Lamberts new XO here yet?"

"She is sitting in the waiting room, waiting for me. But I am stuck here talking to you about the new XO, waiting out there. For me." Senek replied.

"You know, I have the power to deport you back to Vulcan." The Bolian replied with a smile on his face.

"It would give me a chance to brush up, as the Humans say, on my meditation techniques." Said the Vulcan in his flat toned voice.

"Send her in please." He watched as the Vulcan turned and walked to the door, which opened when it sensors detected him.

From the other side of the door, the Admiral heard the Senek say 'The Admiral is ready to see you now'.

As Elena heard the Vulcan she nodded and entered the room "Major Elena Kristina Wright reporting as ordered, sir" She said while saluting, she had met the Admiral once before on Liberty Station but doubted he still remembered her so the formalities seemed appropriate.

"At ease Major. Have a seat please. Do you have any idea why you are here?" the Bolian asked.

Elena took a seat before looking back at the Admiral. "Negative sir, I have only heard I have been reassigned to Task Force 9"

"Ah, excellent then. I do like surprises. Firstly you are gone transferred to the USS Unification, as her XO." He waited to let that sink in.

Elena looked a bit surprised and just barely managed to avoid expressing it. "Thank you, sir. That is an honour."

"No, the honour is mine. I have read your record. I think we met once, but that may be my mind playing tricks. Liberty Station?"

Elena nodded "I didn't think you would remember, yes we met a few years back just before the Cardassia Operation"

"Yes. I am very good with faces. Not so good with names. Dark times. Glad we got through them!" A smile returned to his face.

Elena nodded with a smile "Very much so Admiral, but we did what needed to be done and I would do it again if I had to"

"I feel the same. Could talk about this for hours, but back to business. With your new position as XO, you will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel."

Elena looked even more surprised now as before. "But sir, I only recently got promoted to Major" She responded slightly amazed.

"Irrelevant. The rank comes with the promotion to XO. Cant have an XO who is outranked by senior staff under them now can we?" He still had a smile across his face.

Elena nodded as the surprise on her face changed to a smile. "Of course, sir"

The Admiral smiled once more, then tapped on his desk. "The rechristening ceremony of the Cas..the Unification will be tomorrow morning at 1300 hours, Starbase time. You will be attending, and will require dress uniform. You do have one don't you? I assume you packed before being shipped out here." A half grin on his face left the impression of both joking and being serious.

"Marines always pack light, but I did manage to work a dress uniform in yes" Elena responded with a grin. "Thank you for this opportunity"

"You can thank me by doing your job properly. And by keeping an eye on Commander Lambert for me. He took the death of Benson hard. They were quite close. Are you aware of what transpired?"

"I have heard some people talk about it in this facility but I haven't read the report yet" Elena responded.

"First off this is for your ears only. I will court martial you if you utter a word of it to anyone, with the exception of Lambert himself." The smile gone from his face, he looked as serious as he could.

She nodded "Of course, sir" She said, her own face turning serious.

"You are aware of what happened with the Galavant and the Cassiopeia?" He asked the Colonel.

"Yes sir, it was major news. Even in 93" She responded.

"Yes, well, what you don't know is the true reason for the loss. You heard that the Galavant was lost to a core breach and the Cassiopeia was caught in the blast. In actual fact the Galavant was taken by a group known only as the ‘Consortium’. The crew were likely killed, but we have no confirmation of that. The Cassiopeia and the Unification were heading up the search for the Galavant." He paused a moment and let this new information sink in. "What we learned from the remains of the Cassiopeia's computer core is that a cascade virus was written using portions of the Galavant’s computer system, in an effort to take over one of the ships, and detonate its warp core above New Bajor. This plan ultimately failed on board the Cassiopeia and the ship was boarded, with a loss of 182 lives aboard. The virus made its way onto the Unification using an unused comm system where is succeeded in getting the Unification to warp. Lambert managed to get everyone off except for himself and the Chief Engineer, Benson. But a scrambling field could only be turned off if someone remained behind. Lambert decided to stay, then Benson stunned him, and beamed him off, before self destructing the Unification, about 5 light years away from New Bajor." He stopped, his face remaining stoic. "Any questions?”

The new information was quite shocking to say the least. "Do we have any idea who the members of this Consortium are?"

"No. We only know they exist. But they are a serious threat. They crippled one ship, destroyed another, and we still have no real idea what happened to the Galavant."

"Thank you sir, I will make sure to look after the Commander" Elena said.

"Good. And we will be keeping the Unification in the loop, in regards to this new group. We will probably head up a small task group, but for now, we need more intel. Needless to say given what the remaining crew and the Unification crew went through, we won't be adding you to the group yet."

"I understand, sir. Thank you" She said in confirmation. "Permission to be dismissed"

"Granted. Dismissed Colonel. And keep an eye on Jacob for me ok?"

"I will Admiral" Elena said before nodding in respect to the Admiral and then walking out of the office.
