Mission:
Episode 2 - Whispers in the Clouds
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Day 2 - 0600
Jacob sat in his ready room going through the last reports of the USS Galavent. There was still no activity on the long range sensors. With the crew hard at work going through what was basically a new rundown cruise. The damage that had occurred during the previous CO's reign was quite substantial and had only recently been mostly fixed. They had finally got the ship into an almost fully functional ship. The remaining minor repairs were being fixed on route. He stood up, turned to his right and took the few steps to the sofa. Before he even got to sit down a beep from his desk alerted him to an incoming comm signal from the bridge. He turned back and tapped the panel on his desk.
"Lambert here. Go ahead."
"Sir we have an incoming communication from Gamma Command. It is Captain Bourne." replied the female voice from the comm officer.
"Put it through please." He sat back in the chair that seemed to take most of his time. He tapped a panel on his desk and watched as his monitor came up though a slot in his desk. He loved this. It saved so much desk space, only having it active when necessary. The face of the human captain flashed onto his screen.
"Commander Lambert. It's a pleasure to see you again, we met just before you took the Unification out." A smile beamed across his face. Obviously Jacob had left an impression on the captain.
"Yes," he hesitated what to say next. He had only spoken to the captain for a very short time, and truth be told, he didn't really know him well enough to have an opinion one way or the other. "We must meet up again, maybe when we get back to New Bajor." The look on the captain's face seemed a little too excited at that prospect.
"Indeed!" the captain replied with much enthusiasm. "Unfortunately this is not a social call, more of a notice. Following the Galavent's disappearance, all ships travelling through the corridor have been placed on high alert. The USS Cassiopeia is en route back from DS15 and will rendezvous with you and help search for the Galavent. The Cassiopeia is a bigger ship than you, so will take the lead on this one. You will be providing support for them." The captain saw the slightly look of trepidation on Jacobs face. "This is not a measure of your ability to captain a ship, it is simple maths. The Cassiopeia is a Nebula class, you are a Diligent class. They are bigger."
Jacob felt slightly appeased by this. He in no way thought that the captain was telling him he was not fit to command the situation. Still, it hurt a little though. "That's ok Captain. I took no offence," he lied. "Where are we rendezvousing?"
"About an hour away from their last known position," he looked down and tapped his PADD. "I'm sending you exact coordinates now." Jacob looked down and saw the coordinates had been received. "Good luck Commander, hopefully you find the Galavent in one piece. Bourne out."
He tapped his comm badge. "Lambert to bridge, there is a new set of coordinates in the helm, please adjust our course accordingly. Lambert out."
