Goodbye, Hello

Mission: Episode 4 - Parallels
Location: USS Unification
Timeline: Day 1 - 1305hrs

Walt picked up a small ‘go fast’ bag and a duffel bag he had with him, and made his way off the shuttle that had brought him to his new duty station, the new Nebula class USS Unification. It was a homecoming, or sorts. Walt would be taking over the position of Chief Security/Tactical Officer from his older brother Jonathan Roebuck IV who was being transferred to DS6 and promoted to Lieutenant Commander.

Walt was new to the Nebula class. His previous assignments were to a Spacedock type Starbase and an Akira class ship, so the Unification would be an all new experience for him.

Walt looked at the PADD he was carrying, checking the location of his assigned quarters again. Most of his personal items were stored in two larger ‘trunks’ and the PADD showed they had already been beamed to his Quarters…so at least he didn’t have to go back to the shuttle to pick those up later.

Arriving at his assigned quarters, he couldn’t help but to laugh. The door plaque read ‘Lieutenant Walter Heinrich Roebuck – Lil Brother’.

Upon entering the room, Walt found the place was spotless. His trunks were neatly stacked in a corner, but there was something else on the bed. A small box. Walt walked over to the bed and dropped his duffel and GFB on the bed. He picked up the box and opened it. Inside was brand new Type-IIf with a note, ‘Keep this with you at all times, you never know what might happen on this ship’.

Walt smiled again as he set the box down on the bed. He then walked over the desk in his quarters and activated the computer. He brought up the location of his brother, who was in his quarters, and the Captain. He knew he needed to report for duty, but decided to stop by to see Jonathan off first.

Walt took a short walk down the corridor to Jonathan’s quarters and tapped the chime. A moment later the door opened. He found his older brother finishing his packing. “Looks like you’re ready to go.” Walt observed.

Jonathan looked up for a moment as he was putting a few PADDs into his duffel, “Just about. I’m glad you made it before I left.”

Jonathan zipped the duffel up then walked over and have his younger brother a hug. “How was your trip in?”

“Not bad, some subspace turbulence at the edge of the system, but otherwise uneventful. Rebecca wants you to call her when you get to DS6.” Walt replied.

Jonathan smirked, “Just like our older sister, ever since Mon and Dad died she’s played the parental role. How is she?”

“She’s good.” Walt replied as he looked around the room. “She’s expecting her second in eight months.”

Jonathan smirked again, “She’s having another baby? She and Tony must be excited.”

“Oh yes, and she’s going to tell you all about it.” Walt replied with a smirk of his own.

Jonathan tapped his combadge, “Jonathan Roebuck to Shuttlebay One, I’m ready to have my belongings beamed aboard the shuttle now.”

“Acknowledged Lieutenant.” Someone replied over the comm and a moment later his trunk, duffel, and two boxes were beamed away. Jonathan...who also carried a ‘go fast’ bag with a PADD, Tricorder, Phaser, extra Sarium Krellide power cell, and a small med kit...everything someone might need if a situation arose and they had to ‘go fast’...picked up his bag, and smiled, “I guess it’s time to go.”

Walt nodded and the two left the room. As they walked to the turbolift, Walt turned to his brother, “Any advice?”

“Get to know your Assistant Chief and the Marine Commander, you’re going to be working closely with each. The Captain is a good man, experienced. Commander Germond is also good, she’s well trained, you’ll be able to learn a lot from those two.” Jonathan replied, paused, then added, “I don’t know any of the new Officers well, I’ve been in so many meetings lately I can’t keep up. I did read their Starfleet Records when they joined the ship, they are all quite capable.”

The Roebuck brothers made it down to the Shuttlebay and Walt saw his older brother Jonathan off. Once the shuttle departed, Walt made his way up to the Bridge of the USS Unification. He looked around for a moment, taking everything in, quickly noting where each position was assigned, then he walked over to the Captain’s Ready Room door to check in.
