My New Big Chair

Mission: Episode 1A - Welcome Aboard
Location: USS Sutherland, USS Unification
Timeline: Day 1 - 0900

USS Sutherland, Bridge

Jacob was sitting in his ready room. He still hadn't finished his reports for headquarters, he had been working on them for 3 days. He defiantly needed some down time, maybe he would try and get the Sutherland some R&R. It had been about 8 months since the whole ship had any meaningful downtime. He filed his reports and brought up the forms needed to request ship wide R&R. He brought up the form and on his PADD and transferred it to panel on his desk. He started adding the details when his comm chirped to life.

"Bridge to the Captain. We have a communication coming in through the Gamma relay, from a Captain Akoval on New Bajor."

Cant have granted my R&R already have then? he thought to himself as he smiled. "Put it through Lieutenant." The Federation insignia popped up on the screen, to be replaced by the face of the Andorian Commander Akoval. "What do I owe the pleasure Captain?"

"Good Morning Commander, we have had a little problem come up with one of our CO's. Needless to say he has been taken out of action. We are looking for someone to step in and take over his previous posting. We believe you are what we need."

Clearly taken aback by what the Captain had been saying, he didn't quite have the words to reply straight away. Fortunately the Andorian on the monitor had noticed this and decided to let him have a few moments to himself.

"Firstly, thank you Commander, but I have to ask..." the Commander had held up his hand to stop him continuing. "Sir?" He asked.

"There is a lot we need to discuss, so per Starfleet Regulation 14, paragraph 4, your previous orders have been rescinded, you superiors notified and you are ordered to New Bajor orbit at best speed. We are informed that you are a 15 hours away from the wormhole, and about 4 hours to us from this end of the wormhole. We will see you in approximately 16 hours. Akoval out." The screen cut to black, leaving Jacob no idea what just happened. He stood up and walked towards the door to the Bridge, which opened with its usual 'whoosh'.

"You are relieved Lieutenant Commander, Ill take the bridge. Helm, set course for the Gamma Relay, and prepare the ship for arrival at New Bajor. Our previous orders have be rescinded, and I think I may be reassigned."

"Commander?" replied Chief Ellis.

He looked to Ellis and gave him the 'not now' look." Inform me when we arrive at New Bajor. Lieutenant, take the bridge, ill be in my quarters. I feel I may need to pack." He stood up and walked to the turbolift, as his replacement took the command chair. "Chief, join me please." He waited inside the turbolift for the Chief to catch up to him. "Deck 3" he told the computer

The Chief waited for the turbolift door to close before speaking. "So what's going on Jacob?"

"For once you literally know as much as I do. There is some problem with a CO based out of the Gamma Quadrant. Apparently I am what they are looking for." He looked to his Chief who had a look of confusion on his face. "I know exactly how you feel, I have no idea what's going on myself. We will find out in 19 hours or so when we arrive. In the mean time, I want the crew to remain at normal readiness. I think the XO is ready to take command, should I be leaving. Although, I would like you to keep an eye on her, and make sure the transition goes ok."

"This is all based on the assumption that, " he paused as the turbolift doors opened on deck 3 and they both exited", the assumption that you are defiantly going. Is it for certain?" Asked a worried friend.

"It sounded pretty certain, you didn't see the Commanders messaged. He didn't even let me ask any questions. Just rescinded my orders and told me to get there. I have no idea what to expect." He shrugged his shoulders.

"Well this stinks. First we lose Jaca, now we lose you too. Its lucky we still have Morin, or we wouldn't have a security chief. Who's going to replace Keely? Because I don't know if any of our current chiefs are ready for that position." He looked to Jacob, who was clearly waiting to see where he was going with this. "Not to put them down in any way, but most have no command experience at all, save for T'Lana, and that was only temporary. Although, she is Vulcan, so she would be the most likely candidate."

"I agree. And that will be my recommendation to HQ. I should think if they are the ones removing me from here, they would at least want me to help choose my own replacements replacement. He looked to Dominic who was nodding with approval.

"Well I will keep an eye on them for you Jacob." He put his hand on his friends shoulder.

Jacob smiled. "I'm not gone yet. Im hoping this is just a temporary assignment, or even better, a misunderstanding on my part lol. Jacob stopped outside the door to his quarters. "We will find out soon enough, let me know when we are approaching the gamma relay, dismissed."

Ellis nodded. "Aye sir." He walked away, back towards the turbolift.

He walked into his quarters, and immediately went to his desk to write his farewell speech to the crew.

About 14 Hours later

Jacob opened his eyes. It took him a few moments to realise where he was. "Wow" he said out loud. He looked over to the clock on his wall. He had been asleep for about 10 hours! He couldn't believe it. He got up and walked to his sonic shower. He took his uniform off and stepped into the shower. A few minutes later he emerged feeling clean and refreshed. He went to his bedroom area and began to pack all his things together. He still wasn't even sure he was being moved but he wasn't going to be caught short with his trousers down. Im gonna miss these quarters he thought to himself. And at least he would be well rested.

About 1 Hour later

The comm chirped "Commander Lambert to the bridge." He looked around at his now bare quarters and wondered if he would ever actually be seeing them again, well after he had picked up his stuff anyway. He hurried to the door and headed to the nearest turbolift to go to the bridge.

A few moments later he strolled onto the bridge where his XO Lt Commander T'Lana took it upon herself to vacate the captains chair. "Report."

"We are coming up to the Gamma Relay now, we have transmitted our access request and were awaiting your orders to take us through the wormhole. "

"Thank you, Ensign, take us in." Directing the Ensign helm officer to the wormhole. In 4 more hours he will finally find out what the hell is going on.
