Episode 2 - Whispers in the Clouds
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Day 2 - 0630
After his meeting with Lt Roebuck he wanted to get Lt Westbridge in the loop. He tapped the panel on his desk.
"Lambert to Westbridge."
Jocelyn looked up from her project, "Westbridge here."
"Please report to my ready room."
"I'll be there shortly sir," Jocelyn slid the focusing chamber into place before locking the upper casing onto the body of the pistol. She lifted it and held it as she would the real thing The weight feels right, and sighted it against the small target she had on her wall, Sights well too, let's just hope Lambert approves it. She placed it in a small box next to an energy cell made to appear as a pistol clip, before closing it she examined the pistol once more to make sure it looked proper.
Jocelyn pulled her uniform jacked on and secured the zipper before picking up the box and heading to the Commanders office. After a quick trip through the ship she secured her holster and tucked the box under her arm before pressing the chime next to the door.
Jacob, without lifting his head, called to whoever was waiting to enter. He heard the footsteps within the ready room before looking up and seeing Lt Westbridge, who had arrived a lot quicker than Jacob had been expecting. He noted the officer stood to attention. "At ease Lieutenant," He gestured to one of the chairs in front of his desk. "Please, have a seat."
"Yes, sir." Jocelyn sat across form Lambert, placing the box in plain view in her lap, "What did you want to see me about Commander?"
"Being the strategic ops officer, you will need to know a little more than the rest of the crew. We are rendezvousing with the USS Cassiopeia about an hours flight away from where the Galavant disappeared. They will take the lead in the search, and we will be providing support. What the rest of the crew don't know, with the exception of Lieutenant Roebuck and the XO, is that they are taking the lead because there are rumours flying around Gamma Command. They say that there is some new group that have slowly been building up strength." He paused, waiting for a response from the Lieutenant.
"Hmm..."Jocelyns interest was piqued, "I have some...friends I could put a few inquiries forward. I also sense that there is something more that you aren't telling me," She paused in reflection, "that is, however, your prerogative sir."
Jacobs face let a small smile through. "I never tell anyone everything Lieutenant. Wouldn't be a very good ship commander if I did. As for your enquires, you are more than welcome to search. I will provide you with what little we actually know. When we meet with the Cassiopeia you will coordinate with their strat ops chief."
"Understood, and thank you sir." Her mind flashed back to the ship schematic she had seen a few months ago, "What do we know sir?" She shifted her jaw to activate the record function on her implant.
"We know that the shift was at least adrift. Her communications cut out shortly after the initial distress call. What we don't know is that is how badly she was damaged, or what caused the damage. That's one of the reasons the Cassiopeia is taking the lead on this one." Jacob thought for a second before revealing more information. He decided against it. "Any questions?"
Jocelyns mind flashed back to the partial scan she had seen her last time aboard the Katana, "Was there anything embedded in the distress call? Sensor logs?" She pause for a moment and laughed lightly before continuing, "Of course it would be unlikely that anyone without SI training would find anything of that sort. I would like a copy of the distress signal to analyze for myself."
He tapped his computer and gave the Lieutenant the required access to the distress call. "Unfortunately not, it was an automated distress signal which was cut off almost instantly. There was no logs embedded in it or anything. Clearly whatever reason the distress call was stopped, it was stopped quick enough that we basically received no information at all."
"I doubt the Dominion is involved," she sighed in exasperation, "but I have heard rumors of other groups rearing their heads." Jocelyn thought for a moment before continuing, "Is there anything else that would be of help sir?"
Jacob shook his head. "You know all we know so far Lieutenant. Is there anything else?"
"No, sir," She stood and prepared to leave, "I'll contact my friends, and the begin my analysis of the distress call, it should only take a couple of hours."
"Oh, Lieutenant," Before he forgot to ask. "Whats with the box?" He had been wondering since the officer had walked into his ready room.
Jocelyn chastised herself mentally, she had forgotten the pistol. "This, sir, is a project I cooked up last night," she placed the box on his desk and opened it, "It appears as an ancient pistol, however internally, it is a miniaturized Photon Pistol." She smiled with pride, "It is capable of six settings from Heavy Stun to Vaporize, and the interchangeable power cell is theoretically capable of six shots on its highest setting." She paused for a moment to remove the pistol and power cell from the box, "The only problem is that I have yet to have a chance to fully test it."
"Ah, sounds interesting. Get with Warrant Office T'Vei in engineering. She is a damage control specialist so if you break something she can fix it," he smiled as he said this. "Also she is also a weapons specialist. I will be watching this closely. Is there anything else Lieutenant?"
"No, sir. I will speak with Warrant Officer T'Vei as soon as I can." She turned on her heel and departed from the Captains office, making a bee line for her quarters. There was much work to do.
